Porsche's 18th overall victory in the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans was nothing but a sensation. For more than half of the race, Porsche drivers Romain Dumas, Neel Jani and Marc Lieb were in a close battle with both Toyotas. In the closing stages, Toyota seemed to be on its way to victory, until the situation turned around in surprising fashion.

For example, the Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer celebrated its second consecutive victory at Le Mans. Reigning world champions Timo Bernhard, Brendon Hartley and Mark Webber lost a lot of time due to a repair over the course of the night, but recovered in spectacular fashion.

 In the LMGTE-Pro class, both factory Porsche 911s dropped out, while the Dempsey-Proton Racing team's 911 RSR was ranked eighth. Abu Dhabi-Proton Racing was the best placed Porsche team in the LMGTE-Am class, scoring a podium finish with a third place.
